The church of Christ has been hitherto taught to trust in the ability of God alone, we are hardly taught to trust in the wisdom of God.
The wisdom of God guides the ability of God.
God, like every other intelligent being, doesn’t do things just because he can. He does things because He sees wisdom in doing it, and that includes granting your requests. God is not going to heal you, or save you, or give you a baby, or give you that job, just because He can; everything will play out according to His plan and purpose for your life.
Trusting in the wisdom of God is the consistent definition of faith we see in the scriptures. The 3 Hebrews trusted in the ability of God (Our God is able to save us) but much more than that, they trusted in His wisdom ( If He chooses not to, we’ll still not bow to your image, oh king). David trusted God to heal his dying son but when God chose not to, he stood up, shook himself, took his bath and just trusted in God’s wisdom. Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane trusted that God could take the cup over him, yet he trusted in God’s wisdom and declared that His will be done.
I could go on and on but for space and time, God’s ways are infinitely higher than ours, His foolishness is wiser than the wisest of us, I know you’re trusting God for that thing, but what if He chooses not to, will you trust in His wisdom?
